Identify and source suitable schooling
The schooling of an employee’s children while on assignment can be one of the most emotional and difficult elements of a successful posting. As a result, SIRVA takes a very consultative approach toward the issue of identifying and sourcing schools for an employee’s children.
The family’s educational requirements are identified and options discussed at length prior to arrival. The SIRVA consultant will endeavour to understand the child(ren)’s needs, gathering information on recent educational history (such as reports) and then carries out research to identify schools with vacancies within targeted areas appropriate to the family’s needs. This research may cross over pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Depending on the service chosen, appointments are scheduled for inspection and interviews arranged with appropriate institutions.
Occasionally, the family may require specialist educational advice and a referral is then provided for additional assistance to ensure an ideal fit is made for an individual family member. Examples may be children needing special education, local ESL programs, speech pathology, gifted children’s programs, language classes not offered at mainstream schools, intellectually or physically handicapped children.
School search and assistance is usually carried out post-orientation and prior to, or in combination with, a housing search, as selection of one has a bearing on selection of the other.
