Quarantine Required
• All travelers are subject to a general health assessment upon entry; symptomatic travelers can be denied entry
• 10-day home quarantine or quarantine in a government facility (depending on discretion of authorities) for asymptomatic travelers, except:
- Those recovered from COVID-19 in the six months before entry
- Those in transit for under 24 hours
- Individuals on business or work trips, substantiated by supporting documents; this includes Hungarian nationals and residents returning from a business or work trip to an EU/European Economic Area country, the United Kingdom, EU candidate countries
- Cross-border workers remaining within 30km of the border, staying up to 24 hours; this includes Hungarian nationals returning from cross-border work within 30km of the border for less than 24 hours
• The following individuals are quarantine-exempt provided they submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate:
- Hungarian nationals and their family, returning from the Czech Republic, Poland, or Slovakia from an accommodation booked before 6 October; these individuals complete a COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival, and can cease quarantine upon receiving a negative test result
• Travelers can reduce the quarantine duration by obtaining two negative COVID-19 PCR test results
- If carrying a medical certificate in Hungarian or English, confirming a negative COVID-19 PCR test conducted in a Schengen Area country, Canada or the US; travelers complete another COVID-19 PCR test in-country, within five days of arrival, with a time lapse of at least 48 hours between tests; and can cease quarantine upon receiving a negative result from the in-country test
- Alternatively, travelers complete two in-country COVID-19 PCR tests, within five days of arrival, with a time lapse of at least 48 hours between tests
- In-country testing must be reported electronically to the competent police body, in Hungarian or in English, at least 24 hours prior to the test; the policy body will issue an electronic confirmation of receipt
- Test results must similarly be reported electronically to the competent police body, in Hungarian or in English

Immigration
• Most consular posts have reopened, depending on local pandemic-related restrictions; out-of country applications have resumed for those locations; applicants should contact their consular post to confirm local application requirements, which may include preliminary soft copy filing before attending a filing appointment
• The personal customer service department of the Labor office has reopened for case status queries on Tuesday mornings Travel Restrictions
• The following categories are now permitted entry:
- Travelers who recovered from COVID-19 in the six months before entry;
- Hungarian nationals and permanent residence permit holders, and their family members;
- Those holding a valid Hungarian residence permit, issued for more than 90 days;
- Those holding a valid Hungarian D visa (Hungarian police department permission may be required – travelers should contact their airline to check whether policy permission is required);
- Individuals carrying entry permission issued by a locally competent policing body (Fragomen can support with exemption applications);
- Athletes or sports experts of Hungarian sports organizations or those entering to participate in an international sporting event;
- Employees of Hungarian cultural institutions entering to perform or participate as technical staff is a cultural event organized abroad;
- EU/European Economic Area/EU candidate country/UK nationals; or travelers holding long-term residence rights for any of those countries; seeking entry for documented economic or business activity (invitation letter or other supporting documents required – check with the airline prior to travel); and
- Those in transit; cross-border workers remaining within 30km of the border, staying up to 24 hours; agriculture workers and athletes; among limited other exemptions
